WHAT EXACTLY is the West prepared to do against Putin and the
rise of ISIS apart from issuing the occasional flourish of feeble rhetoric?
America has a weak president who is spending the remaining time he has left in
office on the golf course – he wants the quiet life, and a 'successful' deal
with Iran over their development of nuclear weapons that he can crown his
presidency with; even if it all falls apart after he leaves office… and what of
the Europeans? Well let the facts speak for themselves.
If
America withdrew her military capability from Europe, any half intelligent
person can imagine what would be the outcome for European security. The Europeans
have, since the end of Cold War, cut back on their military spending; and no
country has done so with more vigour than the last UK Coalition. People do not
like guns and would prefer the money to be spent on the NHS or to manage the
deficit – besides, those poor saps known as the American taxpayers (who, by the
way, have no NHS) have stood surety over the continents defences under the
auspices of NATO since the end of the Second World War.
Cameron
is always droning on about welfare dependency – well, Dave, join those other
European leaders on American welfare dependency. How does it feel to live on
Benefits Street Dave? Even now as the dark clouds are gathering over Europe
from the East, and the cauldron that is bubbling in the Middle East and is
threatening to boil over; Dave still refuses to spend just two per cent of GDP
on defence; which is the minimal amount required by all European countries as
part of their membership of NATO.
WESTERN EUROPE HAS been lucky that it has not had to endure
yet another European war since 1945, on whose ever side of such a conflict
European nations may have found themselves. The 1960s generation, part of whom,
like myself, have prospered[1]
but only in complacency and have passed such smugness down to every generation
since. Today that complacency has been translated into a new kind of what I
call liberal appeasement. The belief that no war is worth the cost in human
lives that inevitably occurs in order to attain victory – this is the
intellectual saccharine of today's liberal and they will pay a heavy price for their
naiveté.
Theoretically,
their argument is an argument we all support - but only notionally. Our
liberals believe, as I do in the precepts of democracy, freedom of speech and
the rule of law; laws that embrace Liberty - but not taking liberties with
them. When such admirable principles are threatened, then what I say is, that
they must be defended at all cost, even if it means fighting a war to uphold,
defend and protect them. If you are not prepared to do so then people like
Putin, and groups like ISIS will eventually overwhelm you and destroy the very
values you support; values which, if taken from you, would leave you living in
dark ages once more - compared to that almost profligate and 'free spirited' behaviour
that is tolerated today under our 'progressive' but decadent democracy.
It is
tolerance that allows a peaceful and a well ordered society. Tolerance is the
bedrock of democracy – but tolerance, as everybody agrees, has its limitations
in fact, if not in theory.
I BELIEVE THAT there is a real threat to Europe both from
the East and from the Muslim world that will make itself felt within the next
three generations[2].
Europe now faces two enemies, one ancient in the form of Islam, and the other modern,
in the form of Russia.
There
is an impotency among European leaders that only focuses itself on the concerns
of the European Union and the primacy of the great European Federal Union
project. This will turn out, I fear, to have been a distraction. The European
Union comprises a tidal wave of bureaucrats fighting for the EU and destroying
the European nation states that, between them, could have done something about
the threats that will overwhelm Europe in the next two decades.
IMPOTENCY IS what it implies, an inability and impuissance
to act. Barrenness and infertility, plus a bureaucratic oligarchy wishing to
stand guard over such a bleak condition in the form of the EU; which chooses to
continue to examine its own navel rather than examine the threat facing it from
outside.
Putin's
£400 billion investment in Russia's defence over the next five years causes no
pause for thought among our politicians – and any general who does speak out
faces the loss of his pension. This is why any criticisms of their political
masters by serving generals will only come after they have retired and secured
for themselves their generous pensions; which is why any supportive comment of
the present state of affairs by a serving general must be taken with a pinch of
salt.
I THINK that sometime over next three decades Europe will be
at war from both outside of its borders and internally; and if complacency
toward this threat continues to evolve among Europe's political class and their
media concubines, who seem to survive in a similar way to those tiny fish who feed
off the backs of sharks in a symbiotic fashion, then such contentment will
eventually produce a grim end for Europe.
If I
could order it I would remove, with a year's notice, all American bases from
Europe unless Europeans made a far greater contribution than they are to the
unfolding calamity in terms of their defence spending. America is turning to
the Pacific region for its new sphere of influence. Europe I believe is passing
its sell-by date. America, militarily, has been the major contributor to Europe's
defence with very little thanks from Europeans.
Always
envied by us Europeans; the American's have proven steadfast when it came to our
continent's defence. Even if it was only in their national interest: that
interest is now in decline. In the future the only attachment to Europe from
America will be an emotional one. I see a time when America, like imperial Rome
in the final chapter of its decline, will abandon Europe; and send out the same
message it did in the 5th century; 'the cantons must look to
themselves.' A similar command will go out to Europe eventually from America.
EUROPE IS IN decline; all that is now left is the laager mentality
known as the EU where once proud European nations are now facing what may turn
out to be the final redoubt for Western European civilisation by giving up
their sovereignty and national independence in order for what? To delay the
inevitable? Europe has 15 million Muslims living within its borders, exiles
from the various colonial empires ruled over by now diminished continental masters
subsumed in European guilt.
Liberal
guilt gave Muslims a home on our continent. The outskirts of Paris are
surrounded by Muslim communities. As ISIS grows so will the confidence of
Muslim communities living in Europe: they will eventually come to believe in a
European Caliphate (let alone a Middle Eastern one) and will act accordingly as
they are already starting to do In the UK.
Within
the UK the Muslim communities in many northern cities like Bradford and
Leicester are becoming the majority in many wards and districts of their cities;
and are beginning to make their own demands upon politicians. During the last
general election within the UK; the Labour Party, since their abandonment of
the white indigenous working class, has turned toward such ethnic minorities to
full-fill the short fall.
This
means kow-towing to the cultural practices of the Muslim community if the
Labour Party wishes to retain their parliamentary seats. This has led to the spectacle of 'progressive' Labour MPs and
supporters attending a Muslim ceremony where they decided to follow the
regulations of Islamic culture by agreeing to keep women separate from the men,
including wives and female MPs. This meant that the Labour politicians in
attendance could have either lived up to their progressive nature and chose to
refuse to meet under such a circumstance; or go along with it – they of course,
as believers in multiculturalism chose to go along with it.
What
the female attendees thought; no one knows. For in the interests of
multiculturalism, their mouths remain zipped.
Europe (including
the UK) must either wake up to what confronts them, or lead their people to
disaster. There is no Churchill with the rhetorical skills to make people sit
up and think. Instead we are being led by 21st century politicians
who have no knowledge let alone judgement of history – only the ambition to remain
in power. It is this ambition that drives Cameron to keep ring fencing the
overseas aid budget, at the continuing expense of the defence budget. There is
now talk of another one billion pound cut in our defence budget – when will the
nasty party turn nasty and start to save the nation?
